What to Expect

What to Expect with Southern Carpet & Interiors

When you are ready to get new flooring installed in your home, here are a few things that we would like you to be aware of before we get there.

Furniture & Appliances

When it comes to furniture and appliances, we will move almost anything. We try to keep your home as functional as possible during the time that we will be working at your house. We do our best to keep essential necessities such as a refrigerator, plugged in and running.

Electronics

When it comes to electronics, we don’t mind moving them, but we cannot assume any liability. We prefer for you to have all electronics moved prior to our arrival, but we do not require it. We understand that in some situations people are not able to move these by themselves. What we do ask if we move electronics, is that you please unhook them prior to our arrival and have them ready to be moved.

Closets

We ask that anything on the floor of the closets be moved and out of the way, as well as any low hanging items such as dresses, pants, or coats. Our installers generally need 3 – 4 feet of working space, off the floor of a closet, in order to work. Also, if you have any personal items that you would like to keep personal, please have them moved before our installers arrive.

Dressers, Nightstands, Hutches, and Drawers

With these items, it is generally the same rules as in the closets. We ask that you remove your drawers from dressers or cabinets before we arrive to install the flooring. We prefer that you move any drawers into a room where no work is to be performed. We also ask that you have dining room hutches completely empty and ready to be moved. This ensures that nothing that is breakable or of sentimental value is damaged in the moving process.

Beds

The night before or the morning of the day we arrive to work, we ask that you strip the beds down to the mattress of any linens. This will allow us to disassemble the bed and move the mattress more quickly. After the work is completed, we will reassemble the bed and move the mattress back to its rightful spot.

Dust

No matter how much we prepare or how hard we try, there will be some dust associated with any flooring installation that we may perform. For this reason, we suggest that you wait until after we have completed the job to dust and clean your home. This way, you will not be cleaning before and after your job is completed.

Dishwasher

This is the one item that we typically do not move. This is because it takes either a licensed plumber or an electrician to correctly remove and re-install them. This also comes as an added expense to the job. We normally remove the front cover of the dishwasher and place the flooring in/under it as far as possible and then re-install the cover. Once the front cover is re-installed the flooring appears to be completely under the dishwasher. Typically, there is enough adjustment on the legs of a dishwasher to accommodate most flooring types and to allow enough room for removal or replacement. If there is not adequate room or if you would like the flooring to go completely under it, then we ask that you contact your plumber or electrician of choice to aid in the handling of the dishwasher.

Other Tips for Your Information

  • If you have not replaced your washer and dryer hoses in approximately 5 years or more, we believe that it is a good idea to do so while we are moving them and working in your home. We will even install them at no additional cost. We just ask that you purchase the new hoses yourself or we will be glad to purchase them for you at an additional cost.

  • Also, please move any small personal items prior to us arriving. This would include items such as pictures, lamps, books, magazines, dolls, figurines, mirrors, dishes, etc. Also, please move anything of any importance to you, so that there is no chance of any damage occurring.

  • We will also pull and reset toilets and pedestal sinks. We typically do not put together new toilets and install, but we can at the customers’ request, and at an additional cost.
